Understanding Your Data

Top Pages

Your top pages reveal what content resonates with visitors:

  • Homepage typically receives the most traffic
  • Blog posts show content performance
  • Product pages indicate purchase intent
  • Pricing pages show consideration stage visitors

Entry Pages

Entry pages are the first pages visitors land on:

  • Often different from top pages
  • Shows which pages attract external traffic
  • Important for SEO optimization
  • High-performing entry pages should be optimized for conversions

Exit Pages

Exit pages are the last pages before visitors leave:

  • High exit rates aren't always bad (e.g., confirmation pages)
  • Important pages with high exits may need improvement
  • Look for patterns in exit behavior

Analyzing Page Performance

Bounce Rate Interpretation

  • <40%: Excellent engagement
  • 40-55%: Average performance
  • 55-70%: Room for improvement
  • >70%: May need attention

Note: Some pages naturally have higher bounce rates (e.g., blog posts, landing pages with external links).

Time on Page

  • Longer time usually indicates engagement
  • Compare against content type expectations
  • Short articles: 1-2 minutes
  • Long-form content: 5-10+ minutes
  • Product pages: 2-4 minutes

Page URL Formatting

Pages are tracked by their URL path:

  • Query parameters are excluded by default
  • URLs are normalized (lowercase, trailing slashes removed)
  • Hash fragments are not tracked

Best Practices

  • Monitor top pages regularly: Watch for traffic changes
  • Optimize high-traffic pages: Focus improvement efforts where they matter most
  • Investigate high bounce rates: Identify and fix underperforming pages
  • Track new content: Monitor blog posts and new pages after publishing
  • Compare time periods: Look for trends and seasonal patterns
